I’m excited to bring you our third addition of Unpacked. This month, we tackle topics like the economic forces that are shaping the industry and how to respond. We also highlight how to optimize rental rates and introduce you to Brian Wilson, Director of Engineering for storEDGE. One of the things that I’m most proud of at Storable is that we are constantly innovating to enable our customers to do more. Our team of engineers is one of the ways we’re able to do this. And, as we innovate, we continue to educate — ourselves and you — on how to respond to current trends and market conditions. Enjoy October and I look forward to what we have in store for you in November.
Over the last two years, the self-storage industry has experienced record growth. But with market conditions in flux, operators will face new challenges in the months ahead. To help you prepare for what may be coming, we break down four major trends and explore what impact they may have on the self-storage industry.
Hurricane Ian Relief. ReStorable, a company ERG focused on addressing climate change issues, is leading a fund drive for relief groups in Florida impacted by the catastrophic storm. The group is making a matching donation to Direct Relief for every employee donation up to $1,000.
Storable Gives Back Together. The company kicks off its Fall-unteer event in November, with Storriors across multiple sites forming teams to raise money and give their time to deserving organizations.
Unpacked Webinar Series. We debuted our new Unpacked webinar series with CEO Chuck Gordon leading a session titled “Preparing for Economic Uncertainty.” In this webinar, Chuck shares his view of the market and how it may impact your business. Watch the recording here. Our focus is to bring more industry insights and current trends to each webinar moving forward. Unpacked Webinars will return in early 2023.
Meet Brian Wilson,Director of Engineering, storEDGE
When Storable acquired Easy Storage Solutions in 2020, it didn’t just gain a suite of innovative products. It gained a team of top-tier talent, including developer Brian Wilson.
Brian started coding in college. He’d go on to co-found Custom Bit, a web development shop that contracted with ESS to develop its facility management software product in 2009. Later Custom Bit merged with ESS.
At Storable, Brian’s engineering expertise was essential to the launch of product and features including tenant protection plans and payments. In this new role, he rallies the Storable development teams to continually improve our products and innovate new features.
“Most innovation isn't brand new ideas, it's an improvement on existing solutions. We must rapidly deliver results to solve the core issue and iterate,” he said

Storable Tips & Tricks
Want to have better control over when your customers receive automatic communications?
storEDGE users can now set Communication Blackout periods at the facility level.
By default, SMS and email communications are paused between midnight and 8:00 a.m. But now, managers can customize communication blackout hours, or disable them completely.
To set this up, navigate to Settings in storEDGE (Corporate level) and select Software Settings from the navigation. You’ll then find the Communication Blackout settings by clicking on the Documents header and then clicking on Settings.
